Purchase Recommendation Guidelines

Purchase recommendations are encouraged from the UNSW community to assist the Library in building and managing one of the University's greatest assets -- the University Library collection.

The University Library is responsible for the overall management of the collection and is committed to developing it in alignment with the Research, and Learning and Teaching priorities of UNSW.

Selection of Recommended Items
Purchase recommendations are assessed by subject specialist Librarians who make the final purchase decisions on all recommendations. These decisions are informed by the Collection Development Policy and the current budget.

Library staff will acknowledge receipt of each purchase recommendation within one week. Academics and post graduates will receive notification of the status of their purchase recommendation by email.

Please note: email responses will only be provided where details of school and affiliation have been provided and where a university email address has been provided.
Support for Learning and Teaching
The University Library also acquires content to support Learning & Teaching in the following ways:
  • Textbooks and recommended readings are purchased through the University Bookshop. Lecturers send their name, course code, session and details of titles to textbuyer@bookshop.unsw.edu.au Copies are purchased for the Library through this process. Orders for text and recommended readings should not be sent to the Library.
  • The University Library has an automated approval plan in place for the timely purchase of academic level titles that support undergraduate coursework. This is based on a subject profile which can be amended at any time. Should you wish to discuss / modify the current profile, please contact the Library
