Library Databases
Periodical Indexes

Library Databases
A library database, also known as a periodical index allows you to search for references to articles in magazines, journals, newspapers and conference proceedings. These references are called citations and include vital information.
Some databases contain abstracts or brief summaries of the articles. More and more are containing the full text or entire content of whole articles as they originally appeared.
The UNSW Library has about 380 databases which span the whole spectrum of disciplines, the databases themselves have many different interfaces so you really need to know your database and how it works. Use Sirius or the LRD (the UNSW Library Catalogue) to access UNSW Library databases. If you are not sure where to start, use a Library Subject Guide for your School or subject area. You can access the Subject Guides via Sirius, the LRD or via the Library home page.
