Finding Articles

Finding Articles in Print and Online

This same process works for finding journals and magazines in print. Let's say you had this citation for a journal article:

"Aussie humour and the definition of self" Milner Davis, J. Australian Journal of Comedy v.8, no.1, 2002 : 103-120

By searching the LRD (the UNSW Library Resources Database - your Catalogue) for the journal title Australian Journal of Comedy you could see if the Library held it in print (OR if it was available online in full text format.) If it is available in print then you need to write down the call number - in this case S827.05/3, go to the shelf and look for volume 8, number 1, 2002 and open to page 103.

In large libraries, such as UNSW Library many items on the same subject will have similar call numbers. It is important to write down the entire call number and the entire citation in order to locate the item on the shelf.

You may find that the LRD record has a link to SFX Services. By following the SFX link you have an option to link to full text if the UNSW Library subscribes to the full text of that journal. SFX will also allow you to search catalogues of Libraries close by. Please note: you may be able to access their print collection but NOT their online collection.

Sirius also provides access to e-journals. Again, you need to remember to look in e-journals via Sirius under the Journal title NOT the article title. Please note: If you are looking for articles for an assignment or essay and don't have specific citations, remember to use the Library Databases.
