Direct Export is often very straightforward if it is supported by the database providers.
At the moment, we know that the following database provider platforms support Direct Export. However, an increasing number of database providers are developing support to EndNote Direct Export. You may find similar export capability in a database not on this list:

The general process for Direct Export may involve:

Search in a database (one that supports Direct Export)
On the results page, mark the references you wish to export into EndNote. Some databases require you to add or save the selected references to a folder (e.g. Marked List), then move to this folder for further directions.
Look for Export options in the database. These are usually found via links such as Download; Export; Save & Export; Save, Print, Email; or Citation Tools.
Export your records to EndNote. You may be prompted to Open with EndNote.exe if EndNote does not automatically open.
If no prompts appear in the process, the references you selected for export should appear in your EndNote library as imported references
Check each citation, making sure all necessary data has been imported correctly as you expected

Please Note:

Use Direct Export where EndNote has been installed: Direct Export will prompt you to open an EndNote library on the computer you are working with. Therefore, it is best to use Direct Export on the computer where you have installed the EndNote program and created your EndNote library
Select EndNote library if prompted: In the Direct Export process you may be prompted to manually locate your EndNote library (i.e. the drive/folder/subfolder where you created your EndNote library). Nominate a library to be opened
Select correct filter if prompted: Some databases may prompt you to identify the correct filter in your Endnote’s Filter Manager. (i.e. databases that deliver through a variety of provider platforms, e.g. PsycINFO could be delivered through APA or CSA or EBSCO etc. Go back to the database and look for the providers logo or check disclaimers)

Import Filters

To download a filter, right-click and choose the 'Save Target As' option
Save filters to the 'Filters' subdirectory of the EndNote program folder, which is usually located in the 'Program Files' folder of the hardrive [Usually C:/Progam Files/EndNote/Filters]

Please Note: If you save a text file from a database and the resulting file is empty, the reason is likely to be a problem with browser frames. To resolve this problem, choose 'No Frames Version' from the UNSW banner before accessing a database that requires you to save the file.

Click on the title and then under Tools and Actions choose 'Endnote' as the display format. Right click to 'Select all' and then copy and paste into a text editor.
