| There
are a number of different search options available via the Catalogue.
These include:
Basic Search,
Advanced Search
and Browse. You will probably find
that most searches you wish to carry out can be done using Basic
Search or Browse. The other
search options allow you to do more complex searching such as
combining keywords or phrases across several different fields
or databases. |

Basic
Search |
Basic
searching allows you to search by keyword,
author,
title and subject
heading. It also allows you to limit to journal
only, database only
or COFA collection. |

Advanced
Search |
Advanced
searching provides more options than the Basic search.
For example, it allows you to search by ISSN,
ISBN, Publication
Date and Call Number.
The search form also provides a space to do more complex
keyword searching across a number of different fields. |

Browse
by Alphabetical Index |
The
Browse function allows you to scroll through an alphabetical
index. Indexes available include Title,
Author,
Subject,
ISSN,
ISBN,
Call Number and
many others. |

Note:
Whichever type of search you use there are a number of things
to keep in mind when entering your keywords or phrases in the
search screen. These include: |

Operators |

| The
Boolean operators AND,
OR, NOT can be used
in your search. |
Example:
The AND, OR and NOT operators
buildings AND

looks for both of the terms buildings

looks for either or both of these

records with the term potato
