6.5 Citing Internet Resources

There are many different "styles" for citing information sources. The "styles" are usually set by professional organisations and publishers.

Important points in citing electronic resources:
""include the URL of the page you have used
""include the date you accessed the site, as well as the date the site was last updated (if available).

Below is an example, using the APA style.

Author's last name and initial (if known) (Year of last update). Title of work (if available). Retrieved month day, year, from source [ie. URL].

Example:
Barker J (2000). Style Sheets for Citing Internet & Electronic Resources: Humanities (MLA & Chicago), Scientific (APA & CBE), and History (Turabian). Retrieved March 31, 2002, from http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Style.html

Other formats:
Please see the More Information section on this page for other styles for citing internet resources.

"" Note: Go to Module 7.3:: Citing in your chosen style for formats for citing other information sources, i.e. citing from books, book chapters, journals etc.

It is a good habit to print a copy of the website that you use in case it cannot be accessed at a later date.
