""Hints & Tips 1
The Catalogue
is a database of resources the Library holds. It points you to the location of each resource.

""Hints & Tips 2
The Catalogue does not record each journal article published. It would be a huge task for any library to input all the articles published in every journal issue held. (Note: that is the job of bibliographic databases, see Module 4:: Searching databases)
So, when you are looking for a journal article, you will need to search in the Catalogue for the name of the journal the article was published in. Once you have found the journal, you can check to see if the Library holds the volume and issue the article is in.

""Hints & Tips 3
Only some book chapters, mainly in recently published books, are listed in the Catalogue. Therefore, a search by chapter title or chapter author is not recommended.
1.4 Searching the Catalogue (LRD)

What can you find using the Catalogue (LRD)?
Every item in the Library collection, including print, DVDs, CDs, other audiovisual formats, and electronic resources can be found in the Catalogue.

Once you understand the types of information provided in a citation, you will need to search the Catalogue to locate the item. It is important to use the appropriate data in a citation when you search (especially for journal article and book chapter citations)

There are various ways of searching the Catalogue, such as, by author or by title. Use the one that is appropriate for the item that you are looking for (see the examples on this page). Once you have a item number, see Module 2:: Get it from the Library to find out how to locate the item.
