2.2 Item numbers and Catalogue (LRD) information

Once you have the location details from your Catalogue search, you will need to retrieve the items (either from the shelves, or electronically).

"" Sample item numbers - do you know where to find these items?
Move your mouse over the item numbers to find out where each item can be found. Please visit the Library website for more information about item numbers & the Dewey Classification System.

Books on Reserve

High demand items, e.g. books on reading lists, are kept in the reserve sections in the Main Library, Kensington, UNSW Freehills Law Library, Kensington, and at College of Fine Arts Library, Paddington.

These items can only be borrowed for a short period, e.g. 2 hours. You must read the location details by clicking on Check Availability or All items to see exactly where an item is currently located.

  ""
"" Note: Reserve is often a temporary location for items, and the item number reflects its permanent position in the library, e.g. MBQ 570/170 D would usually be on the main library shelves, CFA 629.2275/1 would be on the main shelves at COFA Library etc.

Journal holdings

The journal holdings statement is useful for determining if the volume and issue that you require is held by the library or not. For example:

S 333.7205/17 vol. 1 (1991)- indicates that we have the journal from vol 1(1991) onwards, whereas
PJ 333.72099405/17 vol. 1 (1994)-vol.9 (2002) means that we only have the journal from 1994 to 2002.
