How to get your Library card

Your UNSW ID card is also your Library card. You can collect your ID from FM Assist in the Mathews Building.

Library cards - conditions of use

  • your UNSW ID card must be presented when borrowing from UNSW Library – and your ID card is not transferable
  • the cardholder accepts responsibility for all UNSW Library items issued on the card and agrees to return all items by the due dates, or by the recall due dates
  • the person to whom the UNSW ID card has been issued must immediately notify UNSW Library of its loss or theft. Failure to do so may result in the cardholder being held responsible for items on the card after its loss or theft
  • the card is valid only for the period shown on UNSW Library records
The cardholder is entitled to

  • borrow up to seventy five (75) items at one time
  • borrow standard loan items for six (6) months (provided items are not recalled by other borrowers)
  • place reservations on items out on loan to another borrowers
  • request items from the basement stack for use in the Library
  • borrow from MyCourse (Reserve) and from the Multimedia Collection
  • request Interlibrary and Intercampus loans
  • borrow from the College of Fine Arts Library, but entitlements may vary – for further information telephone: (02) 9385 0713
  • borrowing entitlements are subject to change without notice.
Sighting of loans

  • items can be borrowed for six (6) months before sighting.
Your responsibilities

  • ensure that items are returned by the correct due dates
  • if an item is recalled, it means that another borrower has put a reservation (hold) on the item and the due date may change
  • check your Borrower Record at least twice a week to see if due dates have changed
  • ensure that UNSW Library has your current contact details - UPDATE your contact details here
  • if you have diverted your Unimail account, ensure that your 3rd party e-mail account In-Box is NOT full
  • Library Rules outline your responsibilities as a member of UNSW Library
  • UNSW Code of Conduct is intended to guide UNSW staff in identifying and resolving issues of ethical conduct that may arise in their employment
  • if you are travelling away from Sydney, it is your responsibility to ensure that borrowed items are returned to UNSW Library before you commence travel
  • you will be blocked from borrowing once your Library fines reach $50.00
