Overdues, Fines & Penalties

Overdues

  • Overdue loans result in loss of borrowing privileges until the item is returned or renewed. Please note that staff who receive 6 month loans are required to bring items to a Library Loans Desk to be sighted and reissued.
  • You can renew an overdue item but you will still incur a fine for the period it was overdue.
  • Please note that the due date will change if the item has been recalled by another borrower.
Fines and penalties

  • standard overdue item - $1.00/day (maximum of $30.00/item);
  • MyCourse (Reserve) & Multimedia Collection item - $3.00/hour or part there of (maximum of $30.00/item);
  • recalled items - $1.00/day (maximum of $30.00/item);
  • lost item replacement - $125.00;
  • all borrowers with unpaid fines totalling $50.00 or more will be blocked from borrowing;
  • students with unpaid fines totalling $70.00 or more will also have their student record blocked. This blocks access to exam results and prevents you from re-enrolling.
It is borrower's responsibility to ensure that items are returned by the correct date.

Avoiding Fines

  • check when your loans are due
  • renew loans before they become overdue
  • see if any loans have been recalled

Please keep your due date receipt as a reminder.

The Library also sends email notices via UniMail (staff and students). Email notices to non-UNSW users are sent to the email specified on your application form. These are a courtesy only and are not a substitute for checking Your Borrower Record. It is your responsibility to ensure that the Library has your current contact details.

Should you be travelling away from Sydney, it is your responsibility to ensure that borrowed items are returned to the Library before commencing travel.

The Library Rules provide further information on your responsibilities as a member of the UNSW Library.
