Reservations
If the item you require is currently on loan, you may
Reserve (Hold) it via the Library catalogue -
Borrowing enquiries.
Please note:
- If you are either a Postgraduate Student or General and Academic Staff and the item is located on the campus you do not normally attend please use the Intercampus Loans service DO NOT request the item;
- if the item you are requesting has been requested by other borrowers you will be placed in a queue.
Reservations are only permitted for the following borrower types:
How to place a Reservation (Hold) on an item:
Books which are out on loan are indicated by a due date. Click on the request link to reserve a book which is out on loan
- search the UNSW Library catalogue (LRD) and locate the item;
- click on the highlighted call number in the holdings column;
- click on Request;
- enter your Student/Staff number & Unipass;
- Note: If you do NOT have a Unipass you can enter your Library borrower number (the barcode number from your student/staff card in the username and password box - Uppercase X......).
Please note:
- regularly check your e-mail account - the Library sends notices to you via the e-mail address listed in your patron record. If you have diverted your UniMail please ensure that your 3rd party e-mail account In-Box is NOT full;
- check your Borrower Record at least twice/week ensuring the due date of your item(s) has not changed.
To know when the item you have requested is available for collection
- your Borrower Record indicates the listed item as "Hold Until (DATE)" you can collect it within the 3 day period indicated - please bring the call number with you when collecting the item;
- an e-mail notice will be sent to you - please bring the call number with you when collecting the item.
Please note:
- reserved items are held in the Reservation area (adjacent to MyCourse (Reserve) on Level 2 of the Main Library) except for Freehills Law Library and the College of Fine Arts Library items which are held at their respective Loans & Information Desks.
Recalls
If an item you have borrowed is reserved by another user than the item becomes recalled and the loan period is shortened to 7 days.
To know if an item you have borrowed is recalled you can either:
- check your e-mail account - an e-mail notice will be sent to you - users who do not have an e-mail account will be sent a printed notice. The Recall Notice will alert you to the NEW due (DATE);
- check your Borrower Record and review the due date of your item(s) or by viewing the MESSAGES FOR YOU section.
