Access Requirements - Firewalls

Difficulties accessing all Library electronic resources, may result from a firewall restriction.

Read the information below to find out if you are encountering a firewall restriction.

If a firewall is restricting your access, then check your machines security software, your modem setup, contact your local IT support or ISP provider to enable ports 443 and 9003.

Workplace Firewall Restrictions

Many workplace networks operate behind a secure firewall that can prevent access to the Library's electronic resources.

Indicators of firewall presence:

  • Error message containing the text Access Denied when attempting to access the Sirius Database
  • Error message containing the text The requested item could not be loaded by the proxy when inside the Sirius Database or LRD
Firewall Software Restrictions (Norton)

Internet security software on your computer can prevent access to the Library's resources.
eg. Norton Internet Security (NIS), Norton Firewall, McAfee

  • Try turning this software off temporarily, to check if you are then able to access the Library's resources.
Please note that none of the information presented above applies to Norton AntiVirus. Norton AntiVirus does not interfere with library access and should not be disabled.
